CCC Letters of Exemption for Ferraz Shawmut Fuses

Manufacturing products for use in China? Ferraz Shawmut fuses are still your best choice for circuit protection, because we've obtained CCC Letters of Exemption for many of our semiconductor fuses.

Mandated for hundreds of products intended for use in the People's Republic of China, the new China Compulsory Certification — symbolized by the CCC Mark — ensures that a product has met the requirements of the Compulsory Product Certification System, the country's recently established safety approval process for product testing, evaluation and marking.

Products determined to be exempt from the CCC requirements are awarded Proof of Exemption letters, which indicate that the products' existing test data can be substituted for testing mandated by the Chinese government's Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA). These letters are then used as approvals to sell the exempt products in China.

The following is a general list of Ferraz Shawmut products that have received CCC Letters of Exemption. For specific part numbers affected, call us at 978-462-6662.

More About the CCC
The Compulsory Product Certification System replaces the two inspection and certification systems formerly used in China. Prior to May 2002, the products approved for use in China were designated with the CCIB Mark for Import Commodities and the CCEE Mark, also called the Great Wall Mark.

Covered by the new Compulsory Product Certification System are 132 types of products in 19 separate categories, all of which are listed in the compulsory catalog. The process requires product testing to applicable IEC standards and the equivalent Chinese (GB) standards.

Exempt Products
Products that are not listed in the catalog are exempt and do not require the CCC Mark. Also, some listed products can be exempt based on their use. For example, a product used for scientific research or testing can receive an Exemption of Compulsory Certification.

There is another type of exemption called a Proof of Exemption letter. Manufacturers can apply for a Proof of Exemption letter when a listed product's normal scope of operation and testing are different or are not specifically called out in the catalog.

The application process includes submission of technical specifications, test reports and a declaration of conformity. Once obtained, the Proof of Exemption letter allows the product to be distributed as a:
  • Standalone component
  • Component specific to replacement or maintenance operations
  • Component for equipment being manufactured in China for export out of China
  • Component for equipment manufactured in China to be sold in China for final use in China
